Erin Powers is the Learning Specialist at The Carey School, currently working 25 hours per week. Erin brings twenty years of experience in the field of education. In the past, she maintained a successful private practice in San Francisco and taught courses at UC Berkeley extension.
Erin’s principle duties at The Carey School are to work with faculty to find means of best meeting students’ needs, assist with the admission screening process and coordinate the efforts of the school with professionals outside of school for the benefit of the children. She works with children in small groups, both in the classroom and in a separate pull-out program. She spends considerable time in the classrooms observing students and developing strategies with the teachers.
Erin holds her M.Ed. from San Francisco State University in Special Education, has her Educational Therapy and Resource Specialist Certificates, and is a credentialed Multi-subject and Learning Handicapped teacher. She is a Board Certified Educational Therapist. In addition to her work at The Carey School, Erin maintains a private practice and works with The Morrissey-Compton Education Center conducting parent education workshops. She continues to teach courses for the University of California at Santa Cruz Extension Program, most recently a course titled, “ADHD in the Classroom.”
She currently lives in Menlo Park with her husband and son, a thriving fifth grader who loves Tae Kwon Do, Legos, reading and science.
