Physical Education at The Carey School

Physical education is important not only to the physical growth of a child, but to the mental and emotional growth too. Here at The Carey School, physical education plays an important role in the children’s overall growth during their years at our school. The skills developed at the youngest age of pre-kindergarten and reinforced and refined through fifth grade build the foundation for their active participation in physical activity and recreation both in and out of school. The main goals of the program are to have 100% participation, to keep the children moving and to promote an active and healthy lifestyle. Participation in our physical education classes teaches the children not only specific skills and movements, but it encourages teamwork, cooperation, problem solving, sportsmanship and leadership. By the time a student leaves The Carey School, he or she will have a solid foundation of game, sport motor and movement skills, a healthy level of physical fitness, willingness to participate in physical activity, knowledge of movement concepts and how they apply to being active and the ability to work individually and as part of a team.
