Admission Process
The Carey School seeks inquisitive, enthusiastic and conscientious students who will benefit from Carey’s program and who will bring their own special energies and personal contributions to the school community. The Carey School does not discriminate in its admission policies, or in administration of its educational policies, financial assistance program, athletics and other administered programs on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, gender, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
Children must be four years of age and five years of age on or before September 1st of the year they begin at The Carey School to be eligible applicants for the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs, respectively. Applicants to all other grade levels are age-assessed on an individual basis.
Steps for Applying
Step 1. Request Admission Information.
Families who are interested in The Carey School should submit a Request Admission Information. The Office of Admission will mail the application packet to the address you provide, within one week.
Step 2. Register for a School Tour.
After reviewing the school’s printed materials, parents interested in pursuing admission should Register for a School Tour. The tour offers parents the opportunity to speak with a member of the administrative staff and to visit the campus while classes are in session. All tours begin at 9:15 a.m. Please register online in advance of the tour date.
Step 3. Submit Application (paper or online), Confidential Evaluation, Transcript and Fee.
Parents wishing to submit a formal application to the school may do so after attending a school tour. Families may apply either via our online application or our paper application. Click here to begin the online application.
A complete application file includes an admission application (online or paper), the non-refundable application fee, three short answer question responses for parents/guardians and the confidential evaluation from each applicant’s current teacher. This confidential form should be sent directly to The Carey School Admission Office by your child’s current teacher. For student applying to Grades 2-5 we also require an official transcript sent by the current school.
Step 4. Schedule an Admission Screening (Pre-K and Kindergarten) or Admission Testing/Visit (Grades 1-5).
Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten screening sessions will take place in January and February. During these sessions, the children will interact in large group play and participate in small group skills stations with our teachers. Screening sessions are scheduled upon receipt of the admission application.
Testing for 1st through 5th grade applicants will take place in January, February and March. These sessions will include the administration of standardized testing, as well as the completion of some teacher-assigned materials. Testing dates are scheduled upon receipt of the admission application.
