The Annual Fund: Gifts to Live By

The dollars raised for the Annual Fund are usually unrestricted and go towards the school’s current year operating expenses. These are “gifts to live by” as they help critical budget areas such as financial aid, faculty development, academic program, and endowment. Since tuition does not cover the cost of a child’s education at Carey, we rely on the Annual Fund to provide essential operating budget income.

Leadership gifts to the Annual Fund are large donations that set the pace for giving at an early stage of the Annual Fund, although they may arrive at anytime during a campaign. Leadership gifts have the special opportunity to advance The Carey School’s mission and transform the educational lives of hundreds of children.

Matching gifts are gifts made by companies, often our parents’ employers. These companies match the parents’ philanthropic contributions. Please be sure and check with your employer as these donations allow you to potentially double or even triple your gift to the school.

100% participation from our current parent community is a vote of confidence for Carey’s direction. We are fortunate to have achieved this goal for the last 15 years.

Endowment is sometimes referred to as a savings account as it takes some pressure off the operating budget by spending a percentage of the earned interest income. Endowment giving also provides a sense of permanence as it sets solid financial terms for the next Carey School generation. As we work to build this foundation, the Annual Fund casts a 10% contribution of the dollars raised towards endowment.
