Alumni Events

Carey, Merry and Bright

Young Alumni Holiday Event 2011

Over 50 alumni joined us to volunteer our time at the San Francisco Food Bank. After that we hopped on the party bus and headed for Pier 39 for dinner, followed by a tour of the holiday lights.  Our last stop before heading back to The Carey School was Ghirardelli Square for a “sweet” treat.

Fun in the Sun Walkfest 2011

The annual Walkfest was held once again at Serra High School.  Everyone walked/ran around the Serra track listening to music while raising funds for Carey. Grandparents sat in their ‘grand’ stands and enjoyed watching their grandchildren participate. Alumni participated in the festivities of the day.  They had their own place to reconnect with classmates. It was a great time had by all.  We hope you consider joining us next year.

Alumni Reunion 2011:  Street Fair at The Carey School

Hundreds of current and former faculty members, parents, students and grandparents gathered at The Carey School to celebrate Joan Donar’s 39 years at Carey.  Several alums joined us from the class of the 1930’s. “Street Fair at The Carey School” was a huge success.  This event honored Ms. Donar and highlighted the love of learning she inspired in all of her students.

The festive spirit was enhanced by The Carey Mamas and Papas.  Food trucks served natural ice cream, cupcakes, Mexican food and rice bowls.  There were fun and activities for alumni and their guests such as alumni artisans, games and arts and crafts. It was quite a memorable day.

Virginia Taylor Spaghetti Dinner 2011

It was so fun to see the many alumni and their families attend this tradition at The Carey School.  Many of them reminisced about their days at Carey and shared their stories of their many accomplishments since graduating from Carey.

Middle School Alumni Night 2011

It was a Groovy! night for the current fifth graders. They heard all about middle school from the Carey alums that are now experiencing 6th grade. Questions ranged from the amount of homework each night to the sports programs to the food.  This event enabled the current students to reconnect with old classmates and help ease the transition to middle school.

The evening was filled with games from the 60s, Tinker Toys and Ops Yops followed by a delicious dinner of Swedish meatballs.  They noshed on tasty snacks like pigs in a blanket and ended with peace sign and far out smiley face cookies.

The main attraction was the Q & A discussion led by 5th grade teachers Sharon Bloom and Craig Coraggio. There was an abundance of questions and even more answers.   The 5th graders left reassured that Carey provides an incredible foundation that they are ready to tackle all areas of middle school.

Carol Roper Memorial 2011

In true Carey community spirit, hundreds of former faculty, alumni, parents and current students gathered to remember Carol Roper.  A slide show honored Mrs. Roper’s 31 years as an educator at Carey.  The Carey School community created a patchwork quilt to honor her memory.  It was filled with photos and pieces of art.  Her family was in attendance and honored by the outpouring of love and thoughtfulness.

Carol will be remembered for her endearing personality, contagious laughter, ability to find joy in everything, wonderful wit and good old fashioned common sense about life.

California Shrimp Boil

Hundreds of Alumni and their families got “Carey’d” Away at The Carey School All Class Alumni and Alumni Family Reunion.  Highlights of the event included a traditional southern style shrimp boil, a chance to take pictures on the USS Carey, fun and games with faculty, and a chance to reminisce with former classmates, faculty and friends.

“Carey”oke and Cookies

This inaugural event started a new holiday tradition at The Carey School in 2010.  Alumni and their families decorated gingerbread cookies, had fun on the karaoke machine, and spent quality time with their family and friends.  It was so much fun to take time out of our busy schedules during the holiday season and enjoy an evening filled with love and laughter.
