The Show Must Go On! (K-5th Grade) | Mondays

$195

Mondays 3:00 - 4:20 pm
Room: KM Classroom
Grades: K - 5th

Have you ever dreamt of playing a character in front of an audience? Well now here's your chance. We will be putting on a theater show with your help -- if you'd like to join us. We will pretend to be someone other than ourselves in a make-believe story. There will be some lines to learn, costumes to wear and maybe some decorations to make for our big performance. If you want to entertain, then let's put on a show!

In order to put on a great drama, we would like to accept all age groups to participate. Younger students who are not yet ready to read their lines are still welcomed to join the class, and will take on more basic roles to match their ability and develop their confidence.

Since theater by it's very nature is a cooperative medium, all members must depend on each other for rehearsals and the final performance. This is a group activity, so each student will have a vital part of the final performance. Therefore, students should make a strong commitment to attend all classes and practice their lines on a regular basis. Illness or unforeseen interruptions do happen of course, but it is hoped attendance will be very high -- so the result of our fun and hard work will be an amazing show!

This class is for grades K - 5 and meets on Mondays in the TBD classroom from 3:00 - 4:20 PM. Please note: this class is an hour and twenty minutes long to provide enough time for the students to prepare and rehearse for the final performance.

The children are welcome to bring a snack to eat during the first 10 minutes of class.

Plastic Model Building with Mr. Desroches (1st - 5th Grade) | Tuesdays

$235.00

Tuesdays 3:20 - 4:20 pm
Room: Thinkering Lab
Grades: 1 to 5

Girls and boys let's build plastic models! Cars, airplanes, pirate ships, Star Wars vehicles ... it's up to you to choose and build the ones most interesting to you.

We will begin by looking at a catalog of plastic model kit options and choose one for our first assembly. The instructor will purchase the model and have it available for the next class. Each student can work at their own pace, and as the first model nears completion, choose the model to do next, and so on.

To boost confidence and help guarantee success at the onset, our first model will likely be a "Snap-Tite" kit which is pre-painted and requires no gluing. As our skill improves, we can progress to glue-together kits that may require painting, application of decals, etc.

Students will practice important skills, such as: project and materials planning, organizing a clean work space, following directions, interpreting diagrams, problem solving, and why following the "pre-assembly, test-fit" process prior to gluing helps ensure optimum results. We will also learn about safety, and how to use an X-Acto knife and plastic sprue nippers properly, and how to use model glue and paints.

During the term, each student will select and complete at least three skill level appropriate models.

This is going to be a fun and creative class! You will finish the term with new skills and exciting models to show your friends!

Plastic Model Building is for grades 1 to 5 and meets in the Thinkering Lab on Tuesdays from 3:20 - 4:20 PM. There are eight sessions this term.

Playing Music on Piano - SECTION 1 (Pre-K - 5th Grade) | Fridays

$194.00

Fridays 3:00 - 3:00 pm
Room: KG Classroom
Grades: PK - 5th

Piano class is back! No matter if you've had piano class before or you are a brand new beginner, there are plenty of new songs to learn. We use the Alfred Basic Piano Library fun book series to learn terrific songs and maybe some you've heard before. Music is kept joyful, simple and stress-free. The emphasis is not on competing but rather improving ourselves. You will receive your own piano book to take home, practice songs and bring back to class. Songs played correctly receive a music stamp and the student moves onto the following song. Parents can see how your child is progressing in the songbook. If you want to learn a skill and have a little patience, anyone can learn music.

Electronic keyboards are provided for student use during each class session. Alfred Piano books are $8 each. If your child completes an entire book and is ready for the next book in the series, it can be purchased at that time from the instructor.

Guitar, drums and flute instruction are also available upon request. Please speak with the instructor for more information.
