Beyond Carey

Leaving the Nest

In the blink of an eye, your wide-eyed kindergartner will be leading a school-wide assembly as a confident fifth grader. When it’s time to start thinking about the next school, we’re here to help students and families find a great fit.

Helping Every Step of the Way

We Know Middle Schools

Ask a middle school admission director or a public middle school principal what they’re looking for in an applicant, and they’ll tell you to look at a Carey fifth grader. Our students are sought-after and set the bar for admission. We have great relationships with the independent, parochial, and public schools on the Peninsula and beyond, and our school leaders regularly visit these schools, connect with middle school administrators, and promote our students, their character, and their abilities.

Planning Ahead

While our focus is on your child’s time at Carey, we also understand the need to look and plan ahead. We support our families through the middle school selection process in a number of ways. During fourth grade, we start the conversation with a Parent Middle School Education Night to discuss the variety of middle school options. Then prior to the start of fifth grade, we meet with parents one-on-one to identify right-fit middle schools for their child and provide a step-by-step timeline of the application process. In the fall, our fifth grade teaching team supports students with application writing, middle school visits, and more. We want our students to feel confident throughout the process and our parents to feel informed and prepared.

Time to Fly

We are experts in elementary education, and the ages and stages of preschool through fifth grade. We devote all of our resources to the service of these young learners during their important primary years. We believe that sixth grade is the right time – socially, emotionally, and intellectually – to leave the Carey nest and fly. Our graduates take with them the extraordinary benefits of their Carey experience and become leaders, with character and confidence, in their next school.
