Summer Reading

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Fostering a habit and a love of reading is one of the most precious gifts we can give our children.  Summertime can offer us an opportunity to help establish reading as a wonderful way to unwind after a day of fun in the sun, and a chance to learn about things that spark a child’s curiosity.  Establishing some routines, and making reading fun and interesting will hopefully help the habit stick. The goal is to encourage the mindset that reading is not a chore, but is a pleasurable activity and a way to grow.  And the only way to become a better reader is to read more!

If you need a little extrinsic motivation in your toolbox, you can download Weekly Goal Tracker Bookmarks (print on cardstock and cut out).  Set a daily reading goal for the week. For every day your child meets the goal, mark one of the dots. You can determine the prize or treat your child will receive after meeting the goal.

I wish you all a fun and relaxing summer break. I look forward to hearing about all the good books you’ve read when we return to school.
